In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about earning this valuable certification in Manitoba—including the requirements, benefits, and step-by-step process to get started.

What is the CITP® Certification?

The CITP® certification is awarded by the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), Canada’s leading organization for global trade education and certification. The CITP proves a thorough grasp of international trade processes, a commitment to global trade, and a dedication to ethical business practices and ongoing professional development. This gives your clients, employers, and colleagues added confidence in your global skills and knowledge.

Holding this credential means you have the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the global trade industry, whether you’re working for a multinational company, running your own export business, or advising clients on trade strategies.

There are 5 CITP Certification pathways. Please visit FITT’s website for details on each pathway.

If you want to begin your journey to the CITP® designation with World Trade Centre Winnipeg, you would follow pathway 1 and here’s what you’d need:

1. Complete Education Requirements

Step 1, earn the FITT Diploma in International Trade. This involves completing six specialized FITTskills courses covering essential topics like trade regulations, market analysis, financial strategies, and risk management. These courses are all offered by WTC Winnipeg.

2. Complete Work Experience Requirements

Step 2, ensure you have at least 3+ years of full-time work experience in international business related to at least 1 CITP competency category.

3. Submit Your CITP Application to FITT

Step 3, once you’ve met these requirements, you can apply to achieve the CITP certification through Pathway 1 (FITT Diploma Holders Pathway).
